**Scheduled in-store pickup lets customers book a pickup date and time slot at any of your Shopify locations — enforced at checkout.** Shopify's native Pickup in store offers pickup as an *option*, but it can't schedule a date, cap how many pickups a slot holds, or enforce a cutoff. OrderRules adds that scheduling layer on top of native pickup.

## How it works

- **Pickup locations.** Each pickup location links to a **Shopify location**, so orders route to the right store. With more than one, customers choose the location first.
- **A schedule per location.** Every location has its own pickup **weekdays**, **lead time** (whole days), **daily cutoff**, **booking horizon**, **time slot template**, and **closed dates**.
- **Slot capacity.** Each window in a slot template has a capacity — the number of pickup orders it takes per day. A full slot greys out in the picker and is blocked at checkout. Capacity is per slot; a location without slots has no pickup cap of its own.
- **Which products offer pickup.** Set on each [availability rule](/docs/delivery/availability-rules): **Delivery & pickup**, **Delivery only**, or **Pickup only**.
- **Native checkout.** Pickup rides **Shopify's native Pickup in store**, which you enable per location in Shopify.

## Set it up

1. On the **Advanced** plan, open **Delivery & pickup** and tick **Offer in-store pickup**.
2. In Shopify, enable **Settings → Shipping and delivery → Pickup in store** for each location customers can collect from.
3. In OrderRules, click **Manage pickup locations → Add pickup location**. Add a name and the address shown to customers, and link the Shopify location.
4. Set the location's **pickup weekdays**, **lead time (days)**, **cutoff (HH:MM)**, **max days ahead**, and a **time slot template** — or *Date only* for no slots. Slot capacities come from the template's windows (see [Time slots](/docs/delivery/time-slots)).
5. Add **closed dates** for the location. Global [blackout dates](/docs/delivery/blackout-dates-and-holidays) apply to every location too.
6. **Test** a pickup order: a full slot or closed date should be blocked at checkout, and the order should carry the pickup date, slot, and location.

## What lands on the order

The chosen **pickup location, date, and slot** are saved as order attributes, visible on the order in Shopify admin. You can also show them as line-item properties in the cart, checkout, and order confirmation. If you enable [order auto-tagging](/docs/delivery/order-auto-tagging), orders are tagged `pickup:YYYY-MM-DD` and `slot:CODE` so you can filter a daily prep list in Shopify order search. Pickup orders are left out of the [carrier CSV export](/docs/delivery/carrier-csv-export), which covers shipments only.

Cancelling an order releases its slot.

## Pickup vs. delivery

Pickup and delivery share the same engine and the same checkout Function. The differences: pickup dates and slots come from the **location**, not from the rule's lead time and cutoff, and pickup always applies to the **whole order** — choosing pickup replaces any per-item delivery dates. ### Known limits

- **Capacity counts orders**, per slot per day. The same cap applies to every date; close a date entirely with a closed date.
- **On stores without Shopify Plus**, the picker sits on the product and cart pages, and the customer also chooses pickup as the delivery method at checkout. OrderRules can't check that both choices match. On Plus, pickup scheduling also shows at checkout — see [Delivery date at checkout](/docs/delivery/delivery-date-at-checkout).
- **Two checkouts in the same second** for a slot's last place can both go through. Checkout validation reads a snapshot of bookings rather than holding a lock.
- OrderRules sends **no pickup reminder or ready-for-pickup messages**. Use Shopify's own notifications or Shopify POS for that.
