## Cap Your Daily Orders

A daily order limit sets the maximum number of orders your store will accept in a single day. When the limit is reached, checkout is automatically blocked until the counter resets at midnight.

## How to Set a Daily Limit

1. Go to **Order Limits** from the dashboard
2. Enter a number in the **Daily Limit** field (for example, 50)
3. Click **Save**

That is all it takes. OrderRules starts enforcing immediately.

## How It Works

Daily Limit: 50 orders

Orders 1-50:  Accepted normally
Order 51+:    Blocked at checkout
Midnight:     Counter resets to 0
```

OrderRules counts orders as they are placed throughout the day. The dashboard shows your real-time count and remaining capacity.

### What Counts Toward the Limit

- Completed orders count
- Cancelled orders are excluded
- Refunded orders are excluded
- Draft orders do not count
- Both online and POS orders count

### When the Limit Resets

The daily counter resets automatically at midnight in your store's configured timezone. No manual intervention is needed. The reset takes one to two minutes to process.

## What Customers See

**Approaching the limit:**
The storefront banner shows a message like "Order soon -- only 5 spots left today!" with a yellow background.

**Limit reached:**
The banner changes to "Daily order limit reached. Check back tomorrow at 9:00 AM!" with a red background. Checkout is blocked with a clear error message.

## Best Use Cases

- **Bakeries and food businesses** with daily production capacity
- **Service businesses** with a fixed number of daily appointments or deliveries
- **Same-day fulfillment** where you can only process a set number of orders

## Combining with Other Limits

You can use a daily limit alongside [weekly](/docs/order-limits/weekly-monthly-caps) and monthly limits. Whichever limit is reached first blocks orders. For example, if your daily limit is 50 but your weekly limit of 300 is reached on Thursday, orders are blocked even though Thursday's daily count is under 50.

Whichever limit is reached first blocks checkout.

## Tips

- Start with a limit slightly below your true capacity to leave a buffer
- Monitor the dashboard during your first week and adjust as needed
- Set up [email alerts](/docs/order-limits/email-alerts) so you know when you are approaching capacity
