"When will it arrive?" is the first question a shopper asks β and the fastest way to lose their trust is to answer it wrong. A naive estimate that counts calendar days will happily promise delivery on a Sunday, or in the middle of Golden Week. An estimate that counts business days and knows your holidays is the difference between a confident buy and an abandoned cart.
Why naive estimates fail
Most "arrives in 3 days" widgets add three calendar days and stop. In Japan that breaks constantly: carriers don't deliver on some holidays, long closures like Golden Week and γη (Obon) span several days, and your own blackout dates aren't in the widget's model at all. The estimate looks precise and is quietly wrong.
Holiday-aware business-day counting
OrderRules (Advanced plan) shows an estimate like "Arrives Jul 10 β Jul 11" on the product page, computed properly:
- Business days, not calendar days. Weekends are skipped.
- Blackout-aware. Your delivery blackout dates are skipped.
- National-holiday-aware. Japanese public holidays β including multi-day stretches like Golden Week and Obon β are skipped.
- Transit-zone matrix. Estimates come from a transit-time matrix by destination zone, so different regions show realistic ranges instead of one flat number.
Because it reads the same calendar as your delivery rules, the estimate always agrees with what customers can actually select at the date picker and with your blackout dates.
Why it's worth turning on
The estimated delivery date is a display feature β the cheapest to enable and the highest-attach, because it answers the buying question up front. In markets where slot-and-date selection is the norm, an accurate "arrives" range signals that you run a tight, reliable operation.
