Delivery date at checkout (Shopify Plus)
Let your customers choose β or confirm β their delivery date right on the checkout page, in addition to your product and cart pages. It is the same delivery dates, time slots, capacity and in-store pickup you already set up in OrderRules, shown in one more place: the final step before they pay.
What this is
If your store is on Shopify Plus, OrderRules can add a delivery-date selector to your checkout. Customers pick a date β and, if you offer them, a time slot or in-store pickup β as they check out. It reads the exact same availability rules you configured: lead time, cutoffs, blackout dates, weekdays and capacity. Fully-booked dates grey out automatically, and a required date is enforced before the order can be placed.
This suits you if you would rather collect the delivery date at the very end, or let customers confirm a date they picked earlier on the product or cart page.
Shopify Plus only. Checkout customisation of this kind runs on Shopify Plus. If you are not on Plus, you can still offer delivery dates on your product and cart pages β see getting started with delivery dates.
Before you start
- Your store on Shopify Plus
- OrderRules delivery turned on, with at least one availability rule β the same setup your product and cart pickers use
- A minute in the checkout editor to place the block
Setting it up
- In the OrderRules app, open Delivery & pickup.
- Make sure "Offer delivery date selection on your storefront" is on and you have at least one availability rule.
- Turn on "Show delivery date at checkout." This switch appears only on Shopify Plus, and only once delivery dates are on.
- Click "Open checkout editor." Your Shopify checkout editor opens with the Apps panel.
- Choose Add block, search for "Delivery date," and place it where you want it in your checkout.
- Click Save in the checkout editor.
Because the block uses your existing rules, any change to your delivery rules, capacity, blackout dates or cutoffs applies at checkout automatically. There is no separate configuration.
The four conditions
The selector appears at checkout only when all four are true. If it is not showing, this is the list to work through:
| # | Condition | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Delivery dates are on | OrderRules β Delivery & pickup |
| 2 | At least one availability rule exists | OrderRules β Delivery & pickup |
| 3 | "Show delivery date at checkout" is on | OrderRules β Delivery & pickup (Plus only) |
| 4 | The "Delivery date" block is placed | Shopify checkout editor |
What your customers see
At checkout, customers see a Choose a delivery date calendar.
- Dates outside your rules β past your lead time, before or after your cutoff, on a blackout day, or fully booked β appear greyed out and cannot be chosen.
- If your rule offers time slots, a slot dropdown appears with a "Choose a time slot" prompt, so a slot is set only when the customer actually picks one.
- If you have marked a delivery date as required, checkout cannot be completed until the customer selects one, with a clear prompt.
Works alongside your product and cart pickers
The checkout selector coexists with the pickers on your product and cart pages rather than replacing them.
- A date the customer already chose earlier carries forward to checkout, so they confirm rather than choose again.
- Where items already carry their own delivery dates β if you use per-item dates β checkout shows those as a read-only confirmation instead of asking again.
In-store pickup at checkout
If you offer in-store pickup, it is included automatically and there is no separate switch. When a customer chooses the local-pickup method at checkout, they pick their pickup location, date and time the same way. Pickup availability and capacity follow the pickup locations you configured.
Where the delivery date is saved
Nothing changes about how the date is recorded. Once the order is placed, the chosen delivery date and time slot are:
- saved to the order and shown in the Shopify admin, with the time slot in plain language such as "Morning"
- added as an order tag
- included in your delivery CSV export for fulfilment
Accelerated checkouts
If a buyer skips the standard checkout step through Shop Pay, Apple Pay or Google Pay, OrderRules still enforces a required date and capacity at completion, so an order cannot go through without a valid date. That is the same server-side enforcement your product and cart pickers rely on.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| I do not see the switch | It is Shopify Plus only, and appears once delivery dates are turned on. Confirm your plan and that delivery is enabled. |
| The switch is on but nothing shows at checkout | The "Delivery date" block has not been added in the checkout editor, or the editor was not saved. See steps 4β6. |
| A date I expected is greyed out | It is outside your rules for that date β check lead time, cutoff, weekday, blackout dates and remaining capacity. |
| Pickup is not showing at checkout | Confirm in-store pickup is enabled with at least one location, and that the customer selected the local-pickup method. |
