Orders without a delivery date

2 min read Β· Facts checked November 3, 2026

Your store always asks for a required date before checkout. But orders from checkout links, chats and AI shopping agents skip your store, so they can reach checkout without one. Choose what happens:

OrderRules β†’ Delivery Dates β†’ Orders & fulfillment β†’ When a required date is missing at checkout.

SettingWhat happens
Block the order (recommended)Checkout asks the customer to go back and choose a date. Orders from links and agents that can't choose one are lost.
Accept the order and tag it "os-date-pending"Checkout accepts the order and tags it os-date-pending. The customer can pick the date on the thank-you page, or on the order status page once signed in to their account (add the Delivery date block), or you agree one with them.

A date that is chosen is always checked: closed days, blackout dates and full days are still blocked. No capacity is booked until the order has a date.

Accepting needs permission to update orders; Shopify asks the first time.

Find orders that need a date

Shopify admin β†’ Orders β†’ search or filter by the tag os-date-pending. The tag is removed when the customer picks a date. It's added whether or not order tagging is on.

Remind customers in the order confirmation email

Click Copy snippet and paste it into Shopify admin β†’ Settings β†’ Notifications β†’ Order confirmation. Orders without a date get "One more step: choose your delivery date." with a link to the order status page. The customer needs to sign in to their account on that page to see and pick the date, so say so in the email if you edit the wording. Most customers pick the date right away on the thank-you page.
